Accessibility

Accessibility statementWhat we have done, and what not yet.

We want this website to be usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. This page describes what has been done so far, how it was tested, what has not been tested yet, and the limitations we know about.

The guidelines we work to

Accessibility work on this site follows the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA.

Israeli Standard 5568 (SI 5568), the Israeli standard for web accessibility, is based on the WCAG guidelines at level AA.

We do not claim that the site fully meets these guidelines or that standard. No professional or external accessibility audit has been carried out.

What has been done

  • Menus, links, forms and pop-up windows can be used with a keyboard, and the focus indicator is clearly visible.
  • A “Skip to content” link at the top of every page.
  • The language and text direction of every page (Hebrew right-to-left, English left-to-right) are marked.
  • Every form field has a label. Error messages are tied to their field, focus moves to the first field with an error, and status messages are placed in a region that screen readers can announce.
  • The video and enlarged-image pop-up windows keep focus inside them, close with the Escape key and return focus to where they were opened.
  • The privacy-preferences panel does not block the page. When it is opened from the link at the bottom of the page, focus moves to it, it closes with the Escape key and focus returns to the link.
  • The background animation on the home page has a pause button. People who have asked their system to reduce motion do not get it at all.
  • Content adapts to a 320-pixel-wide screen and to 200% zoom without sideways scrolling.
  • Colour contrast fixes where text was below the required level.
  • Every image has a text alternative or is marked as decorative (checked automatically). Diagrams and screenshots can be opened in an enlarged view that can also be moved with the keyboard.

How it was tested

Every page, in Hebrew and in English, was checked with the automated tool axe-core in the Google Chrome browser, at screen widths of 1280, 640 and 320 pixels (including mobile-phone emulation).

The menu, the forms and the pop-up windows were checked with automated keyboard tests.

Automated testing finds only some of the possible accessibility problems.

Not tested yet

  • Use with screen readers (such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver and TalkBack).
  • Voice control.
  • Windows high-contrast mode and text-spacing settings.

Known limitations

  • The Opero video (on YouTube) has only YouTube’s automatically generated captions, whose accuracy has not been checked. There is no written transcript.
  • Some recommendation letters are PDF files without accessibility tags. The letter of appreciation from HaNoar HaOved VeHaLomed is a scanned image with no readable text, so screen readers cannot read it. The main quotation from each letter appears on the page as text.
  • Diagrams and screenshots contain English text that is part of the image. The small labels inside them may be hard to read, and the quality of their text descriptions has not been reviewed by a person.
  • The book is offered as a PDF file. On phones it opens as a file rather than inside the page.

External services

Meetings are booked on Cal.com, the video player is YouTube’s, and some links lead to LinkedIn and other sites. The accessibility of those services is outside our control.
